About

Nowadays, biopharmaceuticals are an important group in the pharmaceutical market. These types of drugs have revolutionized the concept of disease treatment. Recombinant therapeutic enzymes and proteins as well as monoclonal antibodies are examples of biotechnologically manufactured pharmaceuticals. Herein, the department of pharmaceutical biotechnology is in line with other faculties in Iran to educate pharmacy students and train talented students in this field.

History

The first faculty member of this group joined the school of pharmacy in 2007. The department was officially formed in 2013. Currently, the department has five faculty members, two Ph.D students, 2 laboratory technicians, and a secretary. Research interests of the Department are enzyme research including biocatalyst purification and immobilization, production and application of biogenic nanoparticles, isolation of extremophile micro-organisms, isolation, characterization, and application of bacteriophages, development of nanostructures for gene delivery, anticancer and phototoxicity investigation of chemical and herbal compounds.
